Indonesia is once again participating in the largest book event in Asia, the Beijing International Book Fair (BIBF).

This is the fourth time Indonesia is taking part in the event, which is currently running until Aug. 29 at the China International Exhibition Center.

Supported by the Creative Economy Agency (Bekraf), five publishers received travel grants this year to take part in BIBF 2019, namely Gramedia Publishers, Mizan Group, Kanisius, Torch Library and Litara Foundation.

Two other Indonesian publishers are also to be present at the event, Literasia Agency and the Kesaint Blanc Publisher.

Yani Kurniawan, head of the Indonesian delegation from the National Book Committee, said that "By bringing more than 300 book titles, six publishers and two literary agents, we hope to sell the rights of more Indonesian books this year."

Last year, the rights of 20 Indonesian books were sold to Chinese publishers.

On Aug. 19, the National Book Committee (KBN) attended the China Book International Foreign Consultants Seminar at the Beijing International Hotel. The event, attended by representatives from more than 30 countries, aimed to build wider cooperation and mutual understanding between publishers in various countries.

Yaya Sutarya, the education and culture attaché in Beijing, said "Indonesia's participation is part of cultural diplomacy through books. We hope this will continue every year." (ran/wng)
