he actors and longtime friends Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels are teaming up for an audiobook adaptation of Carrey’s semi-autobiographical novel, Memoirs and Misinformation.
Carrey co-wrote Memoirs and Misinformation in collaboration with American author Dana Vachon, who is best known for his 2007 debut novel Mergers & Acquisitions.
Throughout the book, Carrey and Vachon deconstruct the “persona” of the Canadian-born comedian as he strives to escape his “addiction to relevance” and his “fear of personal erasure”.
“Meet Jim Carrey. Sure, he’s an insanely successful and beloved movie star drowning in wealth and privilege – but he’s also lonely. Maybe past his prime. Maybe even . . . getting fat? He’s tried diets, gurus, and cuddling with his military-grade Israeli guard dogs, but nothing seems to lift the cloud of emptiness and ennui. Even the sage advice of his best friend, actor and dinosaur skull collector Nicolas Cage, isn’t enough to pull Carrey out of his slump,” publisher Penguin Random House said of the book.

While actor Nicolas Cage and screenwriter Charlie Kaufman are mentioned in Memoirs and Misinformation, Carrey announced on Twitter the involvement of Daniels for the novel’s audio adaptation.
Couldn’t be more delighted that my friend @Jeff_Daniels found the time to narrate my novel ‘Memoirs and Misinformation.’ Get it July 7th. Click the pic for a listen! https://t.co/w3aNeKJOKi pic.twitter.com/qUyf8YROTp

Meanwhile, Daniels described Carrey’s first venture in literature as “‘Alice in Wonderland’ meets Hunter S. Thompson”.
“I had no idea Jim knew so many big words, but he did write it with someone else so maybe that’s where they came from. Whatever I was expecting, this wasn’t it. What a wild ride. Some of it’s true, some of it might have been, some of it can’t possibly be and yet all of it reads like Jim had grabbed me by the hand and said, ‘Let’s jump,'” he added in a statement to Hollywood Reporter.
Originally set for release on May 5, Memoirs and Misinformation will be published on July 7 by Knopf in hardcover and ebook, along with an audiobook by Penguin Random House Audio.
