#MadeInCirebon - Diary from Workshop for Students and Teachers @smpn1cirebon DAY 2! . On this day, students from Grade 7, 8, and 9 got their hands on creating simple lettering design and stop motion animation under the guidance of @sinauart artists Agoest Purnomo @purnomo_agoest and Daniel Adenis @daniel.adenis83! After a routine greeting, health and safety check - Daniel began explaining about the variety of letterings and encouraged students to sketch their own design. As the afternoon progressed, he and Agoest helped students to operate their camera phones and edit with a simple application. Afterwards we had a presentation and screening session. . The session itself went a little over time, but it almost did not matter because everyone enjoyed the session and students came home feeling happy and proud of themselves. "I was afraid that students would be overwhelmed with having to draw manually and operate applications, but they're really skillful artists! They're also a quick learner, we only showed the basics of the application and moments later, they're experts!" said Daniel. For Agoest, the experience was more about creating animation, "This entire process of learning animation is so new for me, I can't believe I'm already teaching this new skill to young students already. It's been an exciting journey, thank you for the opportunity." . Teaching Artist/animator @alfizachkyelle thought the session was very successful and impressive. "It's beyond my expectation. I can't believe these students had never created animation before because their skills are amazing! This also show just how Agoest and Daniel are great teachers. Well done!" . #ODAProject2020

SMPN 1 principal Lilik Agus Darmawan said in a statement that he hoped the workshops would inspire teachers to improve their skills and knowledge, particularly in teaching and learning models. “The purpose of education is to cultivate a creative mindset, meaning that we can’t use the same methods over and over again. These workshops are just starting points to produce a more integrated learning module that combines art, culture and history, along with current issues that we’re all facing," Lilik added.

Sinau Art coordinator Nico Broer was hopeful that the program would make art more accessible. “With these workshops, we learn how to explore artistic approaches to different methods, which can be fun and enjoyable for school children to learn,” said Nico.

Cirebon was selected for the program because of its rich cultural heritage.

“It’s very interesting to see the opportunities for arts and culture educational content that can be developed from a city that is so multicultural and has strong traditional roots,” said KACES director of international affairs Serin Kim Hong.

All the participants will present their learning outcomes at the program’s final presentation and closing ceremony, which will be livestreamed on ARCOLABS’ YouTube channel and on Instagram Live on Sept. 25.

Established in 2005, KACES aims to promote cultural enrichment and enhance national capacities for culture by providing access to arts and culture education. (wir/kes)
