Plainsong Live Sessions, an at-home video concert series, has returned for a second season.

As in the first season, 12 musicians were involved in the four-episode series. The episodes are 45 minutes long and air every two weeks from Nov. 7 to Dec. 19.

The first episode stars Mondo Gascaro, The S.I.G.I.T and Irama Pantai Selatan. The musicians performed in their residences in Jakarta, Bandung and South Tangerang, respectively.

The coming episodes will feature Senyawa (Yogyakarta), Sundancer (Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara), Filastine & Nova (Barcelona, Spain, and Malang, East Java), Hara (Bogor), Ramengvrl (Jakarta), Heals (Bandung), Isyana Sarasvati (Bandung), Made Mawut (Denpasar, Bali) and Endah N' Rhesa (South Tangerang).

Filmmaker Anggun Priambodo, who directed the first and second season, said he wanted to capture the musicians performing in their most comfortable settings.

“The idea for the series came from the private spaces that most of us use these days,” he told The Jakarta Post by text message.

To shoot the performances, Anggun traveled to all the locations.

“I took good care of my health and complied with the protocols,” he added.

Anggun said that each musician had provided a unique contribution to the series as they each filled the days in their own way during the pandemic.

“For example, since the virus outbreak, Mondo and his wife have created a small plant shop. Their yard was filled with their collection. [We saw them] take care of the plants and their three kids,” he said.

“Meanwhile, Heals recorded their performance during the finishing process of their new album in a villa in Lembang [West Java].”

Senyawa, one of the groups that will appear in the coming episodes, said they declined the offer to be featured in the first season because they were worried that their energy would not carry over to a digital-only audience. Senyawa is famous for their dynamic stage presence in front of live audiences.

“However, after doing several online shows with various concepts, we agree to join Plainsong and did a very rare set of pure unplugged acoustic [versions of our songs],” the group said.

Plainsong Live is a music and entertainment promoter that has organized events such as the Joyland Festival, Djakarta Artmosphere and Suara Tujuh Nada. It has also arranged concerts by celebrated artists such as Pure Saturday and Frau. The video series was conceived to quench music lovers' thirst for live music during the pandemic. (wng)
