usician Yovie Widianto was recognized as the Best Composer of the year in the Professional category at the 2020 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) on Sunday.

He received the award for his song “Maafkan Aku #TerlanjurMencinta” (I’m Sorry #ForLovingYou), performed by Indonesian singer Tiara Andini.

MAMA is among the biggest K-pop award events in Asia. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s MAMA took place virtually from South Korea.

Yovie took to Instagram to express his gratitude for the award. “Hopefully this [award] will make the nation proud and encourage Indonesian composers as well as musicians to continue making music and having a huge impact on the music industry in Asia,” said Yovie in a video. In the video’s caption, Yovie reminisced about awards he won in the 1990s, whether as a solo artist or along with the Yovie & Nuno band and Kahitna, the successful group that propelled Yovie to national fame in the mid-1990s thanks to his trademark of sweet melodies and mighty hooks.
