orean-American rapper Jay Park has been criticized by Muslims for his song, “Mukbang! (Remix)". The lyric “Worship me like Allah. Get it done like wallah” comparing him to Allah has incited outrage around the Muslim world.
The song was actually released in December 2020. It became an internet sensation recently after a netizen published a tweet about the verse in the song.
At first, the 34-year-old rapper admits that he did not see the problem when fans called him out for his lyrics. Park apologized via his Twitter account. He also clarified that the lyrics were never meant to be offensive or disrespectful.
However, netizens did not really accept his first apology on Thursday. Some said Park was even guilt-tripping because he accused them of spreading a false narrative.
“Yall outta pocket for ‘he draggin a religion’ or ‘racist’ comments stop with that bull**** false narrative,” he said on Thursday via Twitter.
He apologized again via his Twitter account on Friday explaining that he finally understood that the word “Allah” was very sacred to the Muslim community. “It's not my place to use something that means so much to the Muslim people in my rap lyrics freely. I apologize to the all my Muslim fans. The intent was never to disrespect or offend and I will be more mindful going forth,” he said.
Jay Park was born and raised in the United States. He was a former member and leader of 2PM. He left the boy band in early 2010 after negative comments on his MySpace from pre-debut time spread around the media. He then released an official apology, explaining he experienced unhappiness during his early days as a trainee in an unfamiliar country. After that incident, Park launched his solo career.
