ourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana has expressed confidence the tourism industry is poised to close 2025 on a stronger footing, projecting that foreign exchange revenue from travel and hospitality services could surpass the year-end target to reach US$18 billion.
Her positive outlook stems from the solid $8.2 billion booked in the first two quarters, which she described as a “mere half-year performance” that was expected to rise on stronger visitor numbers and higher average spending per arrival (ASPA) in the second half.
“We are optimistic, given the continued growth in arrivals and the significant ASPA performance in Q3 [quarter three]. We also still have the Christmas and New Year holidays in Q4. By the year-end, tourism revenue could reach the target and even approach $18 billion,” Widiyanti said on Monday, during a working meeting with House of Representatives Commission VII overseeing the tourism industry and creative economy.
“We are optimistic that by the end of the year, we can reach the target of exceeding 14 million to 15 million arrivals, in line with the updated 2025 government work plan,” she added.
Indonesia has seen a steady rise in international tourists and recorded 11.43 million foreign arrivals from January to September, an increase of 10.22 percent year-on-year (yoy) from the first nine months of 2024.
To sustain momentum, the Tourism Ministry plans to maintain its flagship programs in 2026, including Event by Indonesia, an integrated travel planning platform that connects travelers to ongoing cultural events, including food and music.
It also plans to roll out an initiative it calls Tourism 5.0, an integrated digital platform to streamline event licensing. Meanwhile, capacity building programs for tourism workers, in particular tour guides, will continue through competency-based training and certification.
