A

long-awaited Instagram feature that allows people to add music to their Stories has finally been made available in Indonesia.

Instagram users in Indonesia discovered on Wednesday that they were able to use snippets of their favorite songs on their Instagram Stories, a prominent Instagram feature used by more than 400 million users every day.

The new feature, Instagram Music, contains a library full of songs that can be browsed by simply searching the name of a specific artist, song or album.

It was first launched in select countries in June 28, 2018, including the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Canada, France, Sweden, Australia and New Zealand.

It was made available in the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and the rest of the Middle East early this March, with Malaysia following suit.

A representative of Instagram Indonesia said one of the obstacles to making Instagram Music available in certain regions was licensing, kompas.com reported. The company first had to acquire the necessary song licenses that would allow it to legally make the music available to Indonesian users.

Before the feature's Indonesian launch on Wednesday, users were still able to watch Stories that had songs attached to them but were unable to actually hear any music without the help of a VPN.

The launch was welcomed by Indonesians across social media platforms, many of whom expressed their happiness and disbelief when they first found out about the feature’s availability.

“Oh??? instagram music finally works here lol,” @wsbdj tweeted.

“Finally got the instagram music sticker without VPN," said Twitter user @aphroudeath.

Indonesian users also discovered another feature that was made available on Instagram, called Reels, which allows them to create multi-clip videos with preset audios and effects on their 15-second Stories.
