On his Instagram story, the 49-year-old posted a photograph of himself at the hospital and captioned it with, "Yes hello. One cancer treatment, please."

Although Hoppus did not reveal what type of cancer he had been diagnosed with, he said in a tweet that he had been going through chemotherapy treatment “for the past three months”.

In the tweet, he continued, "It sucks and I'm scared, and at the same time I'm blessed with incredible doctors and family and friends to get me through this. I still have months of treatment ahead of me but I'm trying to remain hopeful and positive."

He ended the tweet on an optimistic note, writing, "Can't wait to be cancer free and see you all at a concert in the near future. Love to you all."

Drummer Travis Barker, who has been Hoppus’ bandmate since 1998, said in an interview with E! News that "Mark is my brother and I love and support him. I will be with him every step of the way on stage and off and can't wait for us to play together again soon."

Tom DeLonge, a singer and guitarist who left Blink-182 in 2015, mentioned in a tweet that he had known about Hoppus’ cancer diagnosis “for a while now”.

DeLonge added that Hoppus was "strong, and a superhuman who is pushing through this difficult obstacle with a wide-open heart."

He concluded the tweet with the hashtag #WeHaveHisBack.
