fter a decade, New York band Interpol reunites with surrealist filmmaker David Lynch to launch their collaborative work from 2011 as a non-fungible token (NFT) series.

The rock outfit performed its song “Lights” at the 2011 Coachella Festival, which featured Lynch’s original animated short film I Touch a Red Button Man as its visual backdrop. A video of the short film, soundtracked by the song, then circulated online.

Fans can now own the piece of work as a limited series of eight NFTs through a new Lynch x Interpol website (lynchxinterpol.tv). The NFTs include newly reimagined versions of “Lights” accompanied with bite-sized portions of the film.

“The new performances are stripped-down renditions featuring [lead guitarist] Daniel Kessler on piano,” said frontman Paul Banks, as quoted by music publication NME. “In fact, these more acoustic takes may be Interpol at their most poignant, digging deep to take each clip to new artistic heights.”

Interpol members met with David Lynch in 2008 to discuss working together on a future project. The collaborative talks continued in 2010, with plans for Lynch to produce visuals for Interpol’s performance at Coachella. The band then came up with “Lights” after seeing the film.

The new NFTs were created with HIFI Labs.

“What makes us so excited about this release is it memorializes the collaboration between David Lynch and Interpol,” added Jack Spallone, Head of Crypto & Product at HIFI Labs.

“Using Ethereum, these NFTs can live in eternity as artifacts of cinematic and musical history. Just as David Lynch’s career helped push the boundaries of film and even fiction, it is now extending into the permanent universe of blockchain.”

One of the eight NFTs will also go to fans for free. They can add their “personal creative touch” to the free version of the NFT via the site’s 3D gallery. One contributor will take home the piece.

The Lynch x Interpol auctions are open from Oct. 26 until Nov. 9.

Interpol revealed back in September that they were working on a new album in London, due to be out next year.
