P

opular chat platform WhatsApp announced that the app would not be available for phones with older operating systems starting on Monday.

The official WhatsApp help center says the app now requires iOS 10 or newer for iPhone users, OS 4.1 or newer for Android phone users, as well as KaiOS 2.5.0 or newer, including JioPhone and JioPhone 2. It can only run on devices that can receive an SMS or phone calls during the verification process. However, it still offers limited support for Android tablets with an active SIM card. Older phone users are advised to switch to a supported device before then.

Many times people are reluctant to switch to new devices because it will delete their WhatsApp chat history. Although it is not yet possible to transfer chat histories between platforms, for example from Android to iOs, it is possible to save your chat history and export it via an email attachment. You can use the export chat feature to copy the chat history from an individual or group chat.

To do that, you can start by opening the individual or group chat that you want to copy, tap “more options” or the three vertical dots image, and then click “more” and “export chat”. Choose whether to export with media or without media. An email will be composed with your chat history attached as a .txt document.

If you choose to export your chat history with the media, you can send up to 10,000 latest messages. However, without media, you can send 40,000 messages. These constraints are due to maximum email sizes.

As quoted from kompas.com, the platform will no longer work on these phones after Monday:
