TANGERANG: Tangerang's plan to build a bus terminal in Ciledug is being held back by a lack of land, an official said Saturday.
Erlan Rusnarlan, head of the municipal transportation agency, said the administration faced difficulty finding suitable land for the site of the new terminal.
He added that because Ciledug was so densely populated, a bus terminal was needed to accommodate thousands of city and intercity buses, including public transportation minivans, in an easily accessible location in the area.
"The administration plans to build a type A terminal that requires at least a hectare of land," he said.
Agency officials have conducted surveys at several locations, including at Puri Beta, West Sudimara football pitch, Lembang Market, Metro Permata and Ramayana, but none of the locations met the requirements for the terminal construction.
"Building a bus terminal at any of these locations would have a negative impact on the surrounding areas. Also, the price of land there is now up to Rp 2 million per square meter, so the administration will have to provide a huge budget for the new terminal," he said. -- JP
