JAKARTA: The Jakarta Environmental Agency (BPLHD) has begun designing a regional action plan on cutting greenhouse gas emissions
AKARTA: The Jakarta Environmental Agency (BPLHD) has begun designing a regional action plan on cutting greenhouse gas emissions.
The agency said the action plan would serve as a policy guide for every agency in the city.
BPLHD head Peni Susanti said the action plan was a derivative of the National Action Plan on Cutting Emissions of Greenhouse Gases.
“The target was to lower greenhouse gas emissions by 30 percent by 2030,” Peni said.
The BPLHD recorded a total of 40 million tons of greenhouse gases each year from five sectors: transportation, energy, industry, garbage and domestic.
Transportation and energy sectors are the largest contributor of greenhouse gas emissions at 44.89 percent and 40.74 percent, respectively.
Peni said if nothing was done to lower the emissions, it would multiply more than five times within the next 20 years. — JP
