GAN KOMERING ILIR: President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is scheduled to open the week-long National Scout Jamboree at the Lake Teluk Gelam camping ground in Ogan Komering Ilir, South Sumatra, on Saturday.

Ogan Komering Ilir Regent Ishak Mekki said Friday that 90 percent of the participants from across the country and delegates from Singapore and Malaysia had arrived at the site.

“The rest are still arriving,” Ishak said on the sidelines of the final rehearsal for the opening ceremony, adding that Yudhoyono would travel by land from Palembang to the venue.

North Sumatra Police chief Insp. Gen. Hasyim Irianto said police were ready to provide security at the event and had deployed snipers at key locations.

Jamboree organizers expect 30,000 scouts from across Indonesia and a number of delegates from neighboring countries to take part in the event, which is themed “Firm unity toward a glorious Indonesia”. — JP
