Furiously scrambling to head off a UN showdown, the United States warned world leaders on Wednesday that trying to create a Palestinian nation by simple decree instead of through hard negotiation was bound to fail as a shortcut to peace with Israel. Europeans worked to defuse the dispute, too, France urging new talks within a month.

Undeterred, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas pressed toward a formal bid for UN recognition that could bring the issue to a head on Friday.

Addressing the UN, President Barack Obama and French President Nicolas Sarkozy offered different solutions to defuse the diplomatic crisis. Sarkozy would have the Palestinians seek a lesser form of recognition at the UN, while joining new talks with Israel.

The Israeli-Palestinian conflict, seen as a defining test of peace in modern times, overwhelmed other matters as members of the world body watched a crisis deepen before them. (AP)

Don’t we think that Palestinians have suffered enough?

History tells us that after World War II it was America that caused the problem as they told England to take in the Jews that were displaced and most countries didn’t want to let them in.

It’s like one side is a rich nation with a poor nation next to it. The conflict runs deep and the wounds never heal and it passes on from generation to generation.

I believe there will be peace one day but there will be a lot of bloodshed because if it continues like this other nations will step in, then it will be a hell of a war in the Middle East.

Isn’t it what everybody believes that every nation has the right to have freedom? Why is there still a question about giving Palestinians their freedom?

Isn’t the answer so obvious? So, let’s say “Yes” for Palestine to be a free nation and a new member of the United Nations

The US Declaration of Independence states: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

Too bad, the Israel lobby is a lot stronger than the Declaration of Independence.
