South Korean actor Hyun Bin attended a joint exercise involving Indonesian soldiers at the Indonesian Military (TNI) headquarters in Cilangkap, East Jakarta, on Thursday.

The exercise began at 11 a.m. The 29-year-old actor and several officials from the Korean Embassy rode in an L-57 tank that was given to Indonesia under a grant from the Korean government and held a shooting practice session.

Hyun Bin, who is currently serving in the Marine Corps, will visit Indonesia for three days this week to promote South Korea’s defense industry.

Your comments:

Tanks and armored vehicles are bought “just in case” they must be used against “opposition forces”. Nobody knows if it that means China or the US or aliens, but armies have to have one just for the sake of it.

Indonesia is not yet like Syria, so it will not be used against activists. But who knows?

Sometimes it’s used against insurgents such as in Aceh, or perhaps in Papua too, if the terrain permits and the situation calls for it. But neither the South Korean government nor Hyun Bin would care.

Indonesia buys their stuff, both parties agree that the Republic of Korea is the good guys, and the actor can brag that he has served overseas.

Anyway, I think that the armor in question is a secondhand American LV-7, probably built or refurbished by Samsung.
