ANDARLAMPUNG: The Anticorruption Committee (Koak) is reportedly suing principals of elementary schools (SD) and junior high schools (SMP) for refusing to release data requested about the use of School Assistance Funds (BOS).

“We regret to say that we must sue school principals for concealing information from the public. The suit will be reported to the Public Information Commission (KIP) in Lampung,” Koak coordinator Ahmad Yulden Erwin said on Tuesday, adding that Koak had requested BOS Data in mid-September.

School principals have refused their request, saying BOS data is a state secret.

Koak maintained that it was only requesting premier data, which was public according to the directive book, Erwin said.

“Technical guidelines on the management of BOS stipulates that BOS data must be put up on an information board at schools. In fact, only five schools have done so,” he said.

BOS policy facilitates free education for citizens in SDs and SMPs.

Erwin said that school principals violated the Information Law, “because they have promised transparency in managing BOS”.

He said the school principals, along with mayor Herman H.N., Legislative Council deputy speaker Yosrizal, Education Agency head Sukarma Wijaya and KIP chairman Juniardi, had signed a document on July 12 about transparency in BOS policy.
