ANDUNG: The West Java Prosecutor’s Office has detained three suspects involved in embezzling Bandung city social assistance (Bansos) funds from the 2009-2010 fiscal year.

The suspects, identified as Y, LB and UR, were detained after they were examined on Monday.

Assistant of Special Crimes at the office, Fadil Zumhana said the three suspects were detained for violating the Criminal Code.

“So the case could be resolved quickly,” said Fadil.

Suspect Y is the adjutant of Bandung Mayor Dada Rosada, LB is adjutant of Bandung municipal secretary Edi Siswadi and UR is head of the administrative division at the Bandung municipal secretariat.

Fadil said the detention was conducted for fear they would conceal evidence.

The West Java Prosecutor’s Office has so far named seven suspects in the alleged corruption of social assistance funds, believed to have caused a loss of up to Rp 40 billion to the state.

In regards to four other suspects who have yet to be detained, Fadil said his office had scheduled for a re-examination.

He added his office would also investigate the alleged misappropriation of social assistance funds at the Bandung municipality during the 2007-2010 budget year which the state had been estimated to lose up
to Rp 40 billion.
