AKARTA: The city administration will finally build the replacement for Lebak Bulus Stadium in Pesanggrahan, South Jakarta, citing its easy access.
“Pesanggrahan becomes our choice for the new stadium because, in the future, we don’t want to only count on access from the roads, but we also want people to be able to go to the stadium by train,” Governor Fauzi Bowo said on Monday.
He said people could go to the new stadium using the Tanah Abang commuter train route.
Fauzi also said the stadium would be close to the Bintaro toll road, making it easy for people to choose how to get there.
Jakarta Youth and Sport Agency head Ratiyono said the stadium would be built on 4.5 hectares and construction would begin in 2013.
The administration has allocated Rp 580 billion (US$63.8 million) to build the stadium.
“Once the payment process is complete, we will proceed with the tender for the design of the stadium,” Ratiyono said.
The city will demolish Lebak Bulus Stadium this year to make way for the construction of the city’s central Mass Rapid Transportation (MRT) station and depot.
The construction of MRT system will commence in September.
