ANGERANG: Customs officers at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport have confiscated a package sent via a postage firm in Liberia, Africa, that allegedly contained 520 grams of crystal methamphetamine worth Rp 1 billion (US$110,595).

Customs officer Oza Olivia on Tuesday said that the drugs were hidden inside two water filters, which were packed together with air filters, fuel filters and a piston.

The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) has since arrested a 24-year-old woman in Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan, who was the alleged recipient.

The woman alleged that the package belonged to her husband’s boss. Her husband had asked her to collect the package as a way to pay back a debt to his boss.

BNN officer Wanto told a press conference on Tuesday that both the man and his boss were still at large.

“It seems that the smuggling used a new method. This is the second time the senders used filter tubes and directly sent the drugs,” he said.

Since January, customs officers have foiled six drug-smuggling attempts allegedly involving a Malaysian, a Sierra Leonean and six Indonesians. Officers have also seized a total of 3.27 kilograms of crystal meth and 536 grams of Levomertofan, worth Rp 8.2 billions in total.
