AKARTA: State-owned railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) is allowing train tickets to be purchased three months before departure dates, from the previous one month maximum pre-booking period.
Sulistyo Wimbo Hardjito, KAI’s commercial director, said the service would be available for long- and medium-distance trips in executive, business and economy classes.
“This should make it easier for passengers to arrange their trips,” Sulistyo said.
KAI said that with the launch of the new system, people planning holidays during the school holiday period in June and July can start purchasing their tickets now.
Last month, KAI held a trial run of its planned electronic ticketing system across the Jakarta commuter-train network, which is expected to reduce long queues in front of ticket counters during rush hours.
