RCTI to officially broadcast Euros in Indonesia

AKARTA: RCTI television station will officially air the Euro 2012 soccer championship in Indonesia live from Poland and Ukraine during the month-long event that kicks off on Friday.

During the program, which will be called Sportacular EURO 2012, RCTI will broadcast 24 qualifying matches of four groups, four quarterfinal matches, two semifinals and the final showdown.

In addition to the main competition, RCTI will also air the opening and closing ceremonies respectively live from Poland and Kiev, as well as a Jakarta-based celebration, including a music concert opener, publicity stunt hypnotist Romy Rafael and communal screenings (locally known as nonton bareng).

The music concert ahead of the opening ceremony will be aired live from Lapangan Seskoal in Jakarta on Friday afternoon. Local singers and music bands such Anang, Ashanti and Ungu band are set to take to the stage.

The communal screenings are set to take place at, among others, Cilandak Town Square and Rolling Stone Café Kemang in South Jakarta as well as in Bekasi Cyber Park in Bekasi, West Java.

“We will host the exclusive package for the Euro 2012 program by setting up an outdoor studio that is decorated in the event’s atmosphere. We will also provide sets up with large LED screens, while the on-air programs will be hosted by our own professional commentators,” said RCTI managing director Kanti Mirdiati in a press release on Tuesday.

The local commentators include celebrities Ricky Jo and Ibnu Jamil.

The Euro 2012 competition will end on July 1.
