Selviana Angelia Rozok, who contributed a back-to-back gold medal for East Kalimantan, says she will need to continue therapy to heal her hip injury.
“I need more time to fully recover from the injury,” she said on Friday.
She did not seem to show any effects of the injury when she defeated Juri Fransisca of Jakarta 5-0 in the women’s under-73 kilogram final at the State Islamic Institute Campus in Pekanbaru.
“I could not play frontally against her in the final because I was not in my best condition. It’s all about tactics and tricks my coach instructed me to play. Thank God I got gold,” she said. She also won gold four years ago in East Kalimantan.
She said her success could provide impetus to teammates to follow suit in the competition that uses a digital scoring system for the first time.
Selvi said she was still confused by the new system, in which the referee has judging authority only for the head kick area with the fighters’ body protectors being connected to the system by a sensor.
“It is confusing. We can’t predict when it gives point. At times, I seem to have launched hard attack on the body protector, but it did not give point while at other times, a seemingly mild attack turned out to be scoring point. There are some tricks to get the points. Taekwondoins should think smartly in the field when they fight,” she said.
East Kalimantan won its second gold through Eka Sahara.
Andi Harun, the chairman of East Kalimantan Taekwondo, said that they were looking to retain the overall championship in the sport it won at home. “We are still optimistic for the others,” Andi said.
West Java currently tops the medal tally with 4 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze medals, followed by Jakarta (3-4-1), East Kalimantan (2-0-2), Central Java (1-2-3) and Yogyakarta (1-1-0).
