urwakarta District Court sentenced dangdut singer Saipul Jamil to five months in jail and 10 months of probation on Thursday for the reckless driving that killed his wife Virginia Anggraini.
“Thank God. The court decided for five months in jail with 10 months of probation,” Saipul was quoted as saying by tribunnews.com. With the court’s verdict, the singer will be released on time served.
The prosecutor earlier demanded the court to sentence Saipul to six years in prison for violating the traffic and transportation law.
On Sept. 3, 2011, Saipul drove a minivan carrying his wife Virginia and other passengers on the way to Jakarta from Bandung. The car, which was reportedly traveling at a high speed, overturned on the Cipularang toll road, killing his wife.
