EKANBARU: Excessive rainfall over three days has caused several rivers in Rokan Hulu regency, Riau Islands, to overflow and inundate dozens of houses and rice fields in a number of villages.
Among the rivers are Batah Lubuh River, Tulang Gajah River and Kepayang River.
Flooding from the Batang Lubuh River has also damaged the local dam and the water has flooded the main road linking Babussalam village and Tanjung Belit village.
“We have yet to calculate the total financial losses caused by the flooding,” said Aceng Herdianan, Rokan Hulu Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) head on Monday.
He suggested residents living along the river banks raise their awareness of potential floods.
