I often hear other expats complaining about how slow Internet is in this country. I have been living in Indonesia since the days of dial-up back in the UK.
Without being able to compare it to providers in other countries, I personally would say that Telkom Speedy lives up to its name.
Your comments:
This article is spot on and necessary; I am sure there are many more frustrated people out there regarding Telkom’s Internet speed.
My experience with Telkom “flash” modems, each one taking a solid one minute to open Google! Even a dial-up is faster than that!
They’re so used to hearing customers’ complaints; I guess they’re immune to it all by now.

I absolutely agree with Mr. Richard’s comment and well-founded criticism about the Telkom “Speedy” service. Here in Bogor, where I live, I often have difficulty even getting online. Usually, after I call Speedy headquarters in Bogor, affable and polite technicians give me careful, step-by-step instructions by phone about how to make the Speedy
connection come alive.
As these instructions usually don’t obtain the result that I so much desire and I need to be connected to the Internet because of my work, when I reach my wit’s end, I call a “special friendly and helpful Telkom technician” to come and
help me.
Usually, this man arrives within half an hour after my distress call, never mind the weather (last week he arrived soaking wet during a thunderstorm), and fixes the problem with lightning-quick and deft movements of his nimble fingers.
This blessed man has several times offered to teach me to clear up the problem myself so that I don’t need to call him, but I just allow him to do it, as he is definitely an expert and I am woefully inadequate in technical matters.
Moreover, this technician is a polite, friendly, industrious and, most of all, honest person, always ready to offer assistance in establishing a much-needed Speedy connection. Therefore, in my opinion, he really deserves the cash that I gratefully press into his hands after he has helped me!
