ndonesia, currently among the world's largest thermal coal exporters, met its target for coal output during the first quarter of this year, an official has said.
The Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry's coal director, Edi Prasodjo, said on Tuesday that Indonesia produced 99 million tons of coal in the first three months of this year.
"That is the same amount as our initial target," he told reporters in Jakarta.
Edi said that 80 million or around 80 percent of the total 99 million tons of coal produced by the country in the period had been exported to major importing countries, such as China and India.
He said Indonesia aimed to produce a total of 391 million tons of thermal coal by the end of this year.
Of the total, around 74 million tons would be allocated for domestic buyers as part of the country's domestic market obligation (DMO), while the rest would be exported, he went on. (ebf)
