China says police have seized four people for allegedly kidnapping and murdering two Chinese citizens in Russia.
The Ministry of Public Security says the four are all Chinese citizens and were seized in China and Russia following joint investigations by police in both countries.
It said kidnappers seized the two victims on April 9, 2012, in Irkutsk in southern Russia and demanded a 4 million yuan ($640,000) ransom. Police found the victims' bodies two days later after relatives had paid 1.6 million yuan.
The Saturday statement says two suspects from northeast Jilin province were arrested in China at the end of 2012. The other two suspects from neighboring Heilongjiang province were later escorted back from Russia.
China is keen to be seen as capable of protecting its citizens abroad.
