he National Mandate Party (PAN) confirmed its nomination of 22-year-old Axel Djody Gondokusumo, son of swimsuit model and actress Khadijah "Ayu" Azhari, as a legislative candidate in East Java.
Head of PAN's General Election Board Viva Yoga Mauladi said Axel would run in the 2014 legislative election for East Java X electoral district, which covers Gresik and Lamongan regencies. "He will be in the same district as me," Viva said as quoted by tribunnews.com.
Viva said Axel would gather significant votes from the district because of his popularity.
Late last week, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) summoned Ayu to testify as witness in a graft case involving Ahmad Fathanah, an aide to former Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) chairman Luthfi Hasan Ishaaq.
Ayu later returned the money -- US$1,800 and Rp 20 million -- paid to her by Fathanah as a down payment for planned performances at PKS events.
