he annual Lebaran Betawi Festival will be celebrated at the National Monument (Monas), Central Jakarta, on Saturday and Sunday. The Thousand Islands regency is the host of the festival.
Jakarta Tourism and Culture Agency head Arie Budhiman said the celebration, which was held after the end of the fasting month of Ramadhan, would feature Betawi dance and music.
'This year's theme is 'Together we create a new Jakarta',' Arie told reporters at the City Hall on Tuesday.
The festival will feature a replica of a Betawi village. Betawi traditional dances and musical performances such as tanjidor, gambang kromong, lenong Betawi, as well as Betawi traditional games, will be presented during the two-day event.
'Visitors can also find a wide vary of traditional Betawi food,' said Arie.
As a tradition, leaders of four municipalities and one regency in Jakarta will hand over souvenirs and traditional snacks, including roti buaya (crocodile-shaped bread) to Governor Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo. (ebf)
