AKARTA: Indonesia's Putra Tugu Muda soccer school from Semarang, Central Java, will represent Indonesia in the Aqua Danone Nations Cup (DNC) World Final, an annual soccer festival for children aged between 10-12 years old, which will be held on Sept. 5-7 at Wembley Stadium in London.
The team attended a pre-departure event at the British Ambassador's residence in Jakarta on Monday.
'We are excited and can't wait to fly to London. I want to see and experience playing at Surrey and Wembley Stadium. Please support us so that we can give the best for Indonesia,' said team captain Saddam Muhammad Baihaqi in a press release.
The DNC 2013 World Final this year will be attended by 32 teams from around the world, including Germany, the UK, Italy and Brazil. During the group phase, the Indonesians will compete against Germany, Ireland and Belgium in Group H.
'It is a great pleasure for me to meet Indonesia's future soccer stars competing in Danone Nations Cup at Wembley Stadium. Football, particularly the English Premier League, is one of the most popular sports in Indonesia,' said British Ambassador to Indonesia, Timor-Leste and ASEAN, Mark Canning.
'Last month Indonesian soccer fans were entertained by performances of three of our famous football clubs, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea. I hope you enjoy your visit to Britain while practicing your football skills. Winning is everyone's dream, however, the most important thing is to have fun and enjoy what we do,' he told the children.
