he results of quick counts conducted by four survey institutions showed that Makassar mayoral election will take place only in one round after Ramdhan Pomanto-Syamsu Rizal, candidate pairs who ran on the Democratic Party and the Star and Crescent Party tickets, won around 30-31 percent of votes in the election, on Wednesday.
'According to the result of a quick count we conducted, candidate pair Ramdhan-Syamsu obtained 31.31 percent of votes, with margin error 1 percent. Based on our previous experience, the quick counts we conducted have never missed from the real counts,' Celebes Research Center (CRC) executive director Herman Heizer said on Wednesday.
'With such a result, it can be made sure that the Makassar mayoral election will run only in one round,' he added.
CRC is one of the four survey institutions, including the Indonesian Survey Circle (LSI), the Indonesian Development Engineering Consultant (IDEC) and the Adhiyaksa Supporting House.
Ramdhan-Syamsu's strongest competitor, Supomo Guntur-Kadir Halid who ran on the Golkar Party and the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) tickets, ranked the third by obtaining only around 14.6 percent votes. Meanwhile, candidate pair Irman Yasin Limpo-Busrah
Abdullah, who was nominated by the National Mandate Party (PAN) and the United Development Party (PPP) ranked the second with 19 percent votes.
Despite the quick count results, the Makassar General Elections Commission (KPU) said it would await the real count results that would be announced on Sept.25-27.
'The results of the Makassar mayoral election have not yet been available. There is not yet a winner and it could not be decided yet on whether the election will take place in one or two rounds,' said the commission's chairman Nurmal Idrus.
He further said, 'It is possible for a quick count to declare a candidate pair as a winner; but, the KPU will only refer to the results of real count.'
On the same day, four other regencies in South Sulawesi also held elections simultaneously. They were Jeneponto, Luwu, Wajo and Pinrang. (hrl/ebf)
