short but heavy rainstorm and high winds hit several parts of the city and tore down many trees causing traffic jams on Tuesday.
Suratman, a on-duty staff member of the parks and cemetary agency, revealed that the heavy downpour and strong winds had knocked down trees in Lenteng Agung, Jatinegara and Pondok Bambu in East Jakarta.
He said his office received reports of fallen trees in Lenteng Agung and the University of Indonesia campus and many workers accompanied by locals were deployed to remove the trees.
Suratman also said many trees had been knocked down on Jl Otto Iskandar Dinata in Jatinegara and on Jl. Pahlawan Revolusi in Pondok Bambu. The trees that were knocked down onto the streets had caused traffic jams before they were removed. But no casualties were reported.
'The fallen trees were removed by the parks and cemetary agency,' he said as quoted by kompas.com.
The city has taken a series of measures to anticipate possible floods prior to the start of the rainy season.
