he National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) reported that twopeople had died and 100,248 others evacuated during an eruption of the Mount Kelud volcano early on Friday.
The two people killed have been identified as Sali, 60, and Pontini, 65, who lived in Putut village, Malang regency. They were found dead amid the rubble of their home, which collapsed under the weight of volcanic ash emitted during Mt. Kelud's eruption.
BNPB head Supoto Purwo Nugroho said all the evacuees had been directed to 293 evacuation sites, adding that 66,319 people were in emergency shelters in Kediri regency; 28,970 people in Blitar regency; 1,349 people in Tulungagung regency, and 3,610 people in Malang regency.
As of Friday afternoon, he went on, many of the evacuees had returned to their homes.
