Ngada community to celebrate Reba culture

T

he Ngada community in Jakarta is set to stage a traditional Reba performance at the East Nusa Tenggara section of the Indonesian Miniature Park in East Jakarta on Saturday.

Chairman of the Reba celebration committee, Siprianus Bate Soro, said he hoped the celebration exposed the public to Ngada culture and strengthened the Ngada people's attachment to their cultural roots.

'€œReba has been celebrated by Ngada ethnic groups. In the celebration we will perform a dance of the Golewa sub-ethnic group,'€ he said.

The Ngada are a tribe in central Flores, East Nusa Tenggara, and also refers to a town dominated by the Ngada people.

Siprianus said on Wednesday that the Ngada community would hold a discussion and workshop about Reba culture at the Kanisius College in Menteng, Central Jakarta.

The discussion will explore the values and wisdoms of Reba rituals and unpack their influence on pop and religious music.

The workshop will feature Ngada culture expert Rev. Hubert Muda SVD, musician Martin Runi and Flores traditional music expert Nestorman.

The celebration, which will be attended Jakarta Governor Basuki '€œAhok'€ Tjahaja Purnama and East Nusa Tenggara Governor Frans Lebu Raya, is open to public. (rms)
