he Jakarta administration, with help from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) and the Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW), is set to form a unit under the Jakarta Inspectorate to monitor gratuities.
Governor Basuki 'Ahok' Tjahaja Purnama said that the giving and receiving of gratuities had become a common practice in Jakarta.
Jakarta Inspectorate head Lasro Marbun said the gratuity monitoring unit was expected to be fully functional in April.
'All officials must report to the unit any form of gifts they receive that could possibly be categorized as a gratuity. With the help of the KPK and ICW, the unit will decide whether or not the gift is a gratuity,' Lasro told reporters after the discussion.
If the gift is considered a gratuity, the city will seize and sell it through an auction. Meanwhile, gratuities in the form of money must be reported to the KPK.
