enior politician Haryanto Taslam, 61, from the Gerindra Party, passed away on Saturday night after suffering from myasthenia gravis, a chronic muscle weakness. He was buried at Menteng Pulo Cemetery in Jakarta on Sunday.
Dozens were present at the cemetery, including fellow politicians Eros Djarot, Sidarto Danusubroto and Ahmad Muzani, Antara news agency reported.
Haryanto had reportedly been suffering from the disease for two months. He was hospitalized at Medistra Hospital on Friday.
He was a staunch supporter of Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) leader Megawati Sukarnoputri during the party's difficult years under the authoritarian regime of then president Soeharto.
He was also one of the political activists that was abducted prior to the fall of Soeharto in 1998.
In 2009 Haryanto joined Gerindra, which was led by Prabowo Subianto who, during the fall of Soeharto in 1998, was the commander of the Army Strategic Reserves Command (Kostrad), which was allegedly involved in the kidnappings.
