T

he National Police Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) has dismantled a major illegal smartphone import syndicate from China worth Rp 235 billion (US$13.58 million), naming two suspects identified only as P and SJ.

Brig. Gen. Ade Safri Simanjuntak, head of Bareskrim’s Special Economic Crimes Investigation Directorate, emphasized that the crackdown was a strategic move to safeguard state revenue.

“As a follow-up to the directive issued by National Police chief, we are conducting a forced search at the TSL [PT Tepat Sukses Logistik] office in Gedangan, Sidoarjo, today [Tuesday],” he said on Tuesday.

The operation spanned six different locations across East Java, as well as North Jakarta and West Jakarta.

Detectives seized 56,557 iPhones valued at Rp 225.2 billion, 1,625 Android phones of various brands worth Rp 5.3 billion, and 18,574 spare parts including batteries, chargers and cables. In total, 76,756 items were confiscated, amounting to Rp 235 billion.

Authorities revealed that some of the devices had already been sold online without meeting administrative and safety requirements. Police also discovered baby clothing and children’s toys, which are subject to mandatory Indonesian National Standard (SNI) certification.
