As part of the commemoration of the Khojaly Genocide, Indonesian organizations '€” the International Youth Society for Peace and Justice, Abdurrahman Wahid Center, the Habibie Center and the University of Indonesia'€™s vocational program department '€” in collaboration with the Embassy of Azerbaijan organized a national-level contest for Indonesian students in February this year.

The theme of the contest was '€œJustice for Khojaly, Lessons for the Future.'€ More than 100 students from all over Indonesia took part in the contest.

A senior journalist from the Kompas daily, Budiarto Sambazy, and representatives from the Habibie Center and Abdurrahman Wahid Center were judges.

Khojaly is an Azerbaijani town, which is currently occupied by Armenia. On February 25, 1992, Armenian troops with the help of former Soviet Union troops invaded Khojaly and killed 613 innocent people.

Fitra Wicaksana from the University of Indonesia (UI), Sanjeevini Pertiwi from the recently established Indonesia International Institute for Life Sciences (i3L) and Aristyo Rizka Darmawan from UI won the first, second and third prizes, respectively.

During Azerbaijan'€™s 97th National Day reception on May 27 at the JW Mariott Hotel in Jakarta, Coordinating Economic Minister Sofyan Djalil and Azerbaijan Ambassador to Indonesia Tamerlan Garayev presented prizes to winners.

Fitra received Rp 12 million (US$907), Sanjeevini Rp 8 million and Aristyo Rp 6 million in cash prizes. Both Sofyan and Garayev congratulated the winners.
