N

ational flag carrier Garuda Indonesia has announced plans to open a new flight route between Surakarta, Central Java, and Surabaya, East Java, which is set to start operating from Sept. 3.

Surakarta-branch Garuda Indonesia general manager, Supriyono, said the Surakarta-Surabaya route would be served with ATR72-600 aircraft, which had a capacity of 70 economy class passengers.

'€œThe flight takes around one hour. Garuda will serve the Surakarta-Surabaya route three days a week, on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The flight will depart from Surabaya at 5:45 a.m. local time and from Surakarta at 7:25 a.m.,'€ said Supriyono on Thursday.

He further explained that from Surabaya, passengers could catch direct connecting flights to several cities in eastern Indonesia. Those cities include Balikpapan in East Kalimantan, Banjarmasin in South Kalimantan, Banyuwangi in East Java, Denpasar in Bali, Jember in East Java, Kupang in East Nusa Tenggara, Lombok in West Nusa Tenggara and Makassar in South Sulawesi.

During its promotional period, Surakarta-Surabaya flight tickets will be sold for only Rp 410,000 (US$30.00).

Supriyono said the Surakarta-Surabaya route'€™s market potential was quite promising. He said the opening of the new route was not only due to customers'€™ demands for the service but was also part of Garuda'€™s effort to expand its flight network in right across the country. (ebf)(+++)
