A

forest fire on Mount Lawu, located in the border areas of East Java and Central Java has spread, and eight hikers remain stranded at the summit of the mountain as of Tuesday.

'€œThe SAR [search and rescue] team has found the eight climbers [at the summit]. Now, the team is in the process of rescuing them through the Cetho Temple hiking line,'€ SAR team member Agil said.

While some members of the SAR team were carrying out efforts to rescue the climbers, Agil said the other members were dousing out the fire to ease the efforts.

Dozens of climbers hiked the mountain on Saturday despite the area having been declared off limits owing to fire danger. On the way down on Sunday, seven climbers got trapped by the fire while three others were rescued and the remaining eight returned to the summit.
