Adoption is quite simple and straightforward, but there are few things that you need to prepare for.
First, you need to be mentally prepared to welcome a new member to the family. Adopted pets will need time to adjust and patience to regain trust due to their past experiences.
Then you can decide which shelter to reach out to. There are many to choose from, such as Pejaten Shelter, Pondok Pengayom Satwa, Republik Guguk, Let's Adopt! Indonesia, Jakarta Animal Aid Network (JAAN) or Rumah Singgah HOS.
You can contact them via their Websites, Facebook or Instagram accounts. You can even see the dogs and cats that are available for adoption there.
You will need to know what kind of dog or cat fits your criteria. From the size, characteristics or breed as well as your own conditions (do you have space, time or energy?).
Then usually shelters will ask you to fill out an adoption form. This is so they can help you find the perfect fit.
Afterwards they will send someone for a house visit to make sure that the environment will work out for both the adopter and the pet.
There will be a minimal cost for the vaccinations and sterilization.
You are on your way to a new life with your new pet!
When you buy from a pet shop, you may unknowingly be supporting puppy mills, which are a breeding process in which animals are forced to breed. It is all about making profit with no concern for animal welfare.
So when you choose to adopt instead of buying from a pet store, you are saying no to animal cruelty.
And the best part of adopting is that you not only find a new best friend but you also save a life.
