overnor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama announced on Tuesday that the working hours of civil servants would be changed during Ramadhan to help Muslims reach home earlier than usual.
During the fasting month, which is expected to start on Monday, civil servants will start work at 7 a.m., an hour earlier than usual, and finish work at 2 p.m., two hours earlier than usual.
“In my hometown [East Belitung], after saur [predawn meal] and subuh [dawn prayer], Muslims do not go back to bed. They can therefore go to the office earlier and go home early,” said Ahok as reported by tribunnews.com.
The change in working hours during Ramadhan is in line with a decree issued by the Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Ministry. (bbn)
