wiss electricity supplier ABB has won a tender worth US$11 million to supply supporting equipment for the enhancement project of the Java-Bali power plants.

The contract will be financed by state-owned electricity firm PLN with an Asian Development Bank loan to upgrade 12 substations, said ABB power grid division president Claudio Facchin. The upgrade applies to design, engineering, supply and installation.

"Along with the controlling and maintenance, the job's duration is two years. It is not about doing the upgrades and maintenance, but also supporting our customers with the software and expertise that we have," he told thejakartapost.com on Wednesday.

All the products used in the project, Claudio said, would be made in Indonesia. However, several foreign technicians would be involved in the installation. This is not the first time ABB has worked with PLN as it previously supplied miniature circuit breakers (MCB) for house installations.

"For this project, the switchgear will be produced in our new facilities for medium voltage in Tangerang," ABB Indonesia country director Richard Ledgard said.

Entering Indonesia in 1976, ABB has since operated two facilities in the country located in Cibitung (West Java) and in Tangerang (Banten). The latest factory was inaugurated in October 2015 with $20 million in investment. (ags)
