he National Police's Densus 88 counterterrorism squad arrested two suspected terrorists in a raid in Surabaya, East Java, on Wednesday.
Densus agents raided a rented room on Jl. Lebak Timur 3D in Mulyorejo subdistrict, Surabaya, on Wednesday afternoon. Agents confiscated homemade bombs, two riffles, a homemade gun with bullets, daggers and a mobile phone set up to be used as a detonator as well as bomb materials in the raid, Mulyorejo Police chief Sr. Dwi Bagus Rusiawan said.
One of arrested men has been identified as Pur, 35. The other man has yet to be identified.
Pur is a former drug convict and was released from Medaeng Penitentiary in Surabaya a year ago, Dwi said. After his release he lived in his wife's house in Makassar, South Sulawesi. Besides being incarcerated for a drug offense, Pur had also been detained for embezzlement.
"He returned to Surabaya a week ago and stayed in a rented room," Dwi said as quoted by Antara news agency.
No further details have been released on alleged terrorism-related offenses.
"Densus 88 will release the information. Police personnel will guard the location to prevent undesirable incidents," he added. (rin)
