The Attorney General’s Office (AGO) has allocated sufficient budget funds for the execution of 30 convicts next year.

“A budget allocation for the execution of 30 death row inmates has been prepared,” an official with the office, Bambang Waluyo, said on Monday during a hearing with the House of Representatives’ Commission III, which oversees legal affairs.

Bambang did not provide details on the allocation and said it was still pending approval from the House.

During the same hearing, Attorney General M. Prasetyo confirmed his office had received the budget funds to carry out the execution of 18 drug convicts after the Idul Fitri festivities, in what is set to become the third round of executions under the administration of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.

Declining to mention the exact date, Prasetyo was quoted by tribunnews.com as saying that the location of the execution would be Nusakambangan prison island in Cilacap, Central Java. (dmr)
