DKPP records 493 complaints over simultaneous regional elections

The Election Organization Ethics Council (DKPP) has recorded 493 complaints regarding simultaneous regional elections held between June 2015 and June 2016.

he Election Organization Ethics Council (DKPP) has recorded 493 complaints regarding simultaneous regional elections held between June 2015 and June 2016. Complaints about candidate requirements comprised the largest category with 132 cases.

DKPP Spokesperson Nur Hidayat Sardini explained that according the annual DKPP report, the DKPP had received a total of 585 complaints in the aforementioned period, comprising 493 election-related complaints and 92 non-election complaints.

"North Sumatra recorded the most complaints, with 72 cases. The areas with the fewest complaints were Lampung and Yogyakarta, with only two cases in each. Riau Islands recorded three cases, while Bali and South Kalimantan each recorded four cases," he said in Jakarta on Monday.

From all of the complaints, the DKPP has brought 278 cases to trial, 251 of them related to elections, nine related to legislative elections and 18 non-election cases.

The council recorded 175 complaints submitted by the public, 151 complaints filed by candidates and 73 complaints filed by campaign teams.

"The types of complaints varied, most related to candidate requirements with 132 cases, there were 50 campaign-related complaints, and 52 related to the voters lists," Nur explained.  (ags)
