Hanna Faridl has always aspired to empower Muslim women and promote Muslim fashion in Indonesia.

Driven by this motivation, she founded a Muslim Fashion magazine called Laiqa, which after three years collaborated with Muslim fashion online store HijUp in 2014 and switched into an online magazine called HijUp Magazine.

The online store and the magazine combined, HijUp is now Indonesia’s leading Muslim fashion online platform and partners with 279 tenants and has had over 13 million visitors, many from outside Indonesia.

Hanna said she was interested in collaborating with HijUp since they shared the same goals and she wanted to contribute to making a portal that was inspiring in terms of its content, videos and articles. “I’m hoping that HijUp can be a platform — not just a shopping platform but also a platform that can inspire Muslim women to pursue their passion, and to be a person of positivity and a person with social intelligence.”

With her busy life, she admits that it has been quite long since she last read a book. But clearly her life has not always been as far from books, having founded a publication herself. The following are three books that she has found have played special roles throughout her journey in life.

---------------

The Alchemist
by Paulo Coelho

This is one of the books that helped save me when I was at my lowest point in life. It taught me that in life we have to give in to our fate, and we have to believe that everything happens for a reason.

---------------

Glass Mask
by Suzue Miuchi.

This Japanese manga has taught me that however small we may see ourselves, we can still dream big, and that nothing is impossible. That we can pursue any kind of dream we have, as long as we’re not giving up, as long as we keep on trying, and as long as we’re doing our best.

---------------

Girl Talk series
by LE Blair

I read these books back when I was in junior high. Girl Talk is a series of books about four teenagers who are best friends. The series taught me the importance of friendship, as well as not to ever forget the people who have helped us in life.
