fficials with world soccer’s governing body, FIFA, and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) are set to meet with members of the Indonesian Soccer Association (PSSI) in Jakarta on Tuesday.
The meeting will likely come in handy as 85 members of the association have strongly urged the association to hold an extraordinary meeting in response to the association’s legally troubled chief.
PSSI deputy chief Hinca Panjaitan confirmed the plan, saying he would host the Tuesday meeting with FIFA’s head of member associations Primo Corvaro and the AFC’s director of member associations and development, Sanjeevan Balasingam.
“Our members will meet the visiting delegation tomorrow [Tuesday] noon. So far, we do not have any specific agendas for the upcoming meeting,” Hinca told journalists after welcoming the delegates to the PSSI headquarters on Monday.
He denied that Tuesday’s meeting would specifically discuss the plan for the extraordinary meeting.
PSSI chief and graft suspect La Nyalla Mattalitti is currently being detained by the Attorney General’s Office. The 85 members believe that La Nyalla’s legal status will hamper the PSSI’s reformation program. Hence, many believe the extraordinary meeting is needed to elect a new head. – JP
