he Relawan Jokowi group of volunteers, which supported Joko “Jokowi” Widodo in the presidential election, has recommended three figures – Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama, Jakarta Deputy Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat and Surabaya Mayor Tri Rismaharini – as possible Jakarta gubernatorial candidates.
On Wednesday, 17 groups that are part of Relawan Jokowi held a consolidated meeting to discuss the 2017 Jakarta gubernatorial election at Hotel Alia in Central Jakarta.
They believed the Jakarta election was important because the capital is a showcase of national politics, said Budi Arie Setiadi, a coordinator of Jokowi PROJO, one of the groups.
“The volunteers discussed the political dynamics in the capital city. We have recommended the best figures for the Jakarta gubernatorial election,” said Budi, as reported by tempo.co on Wednesday.
The three figures, according to Budi, were recommended by the participants of the meeting. He said the three figures had similar visions to Jokowi and deserved the chance to govern Jakarta.
“We will hand over our recommendations to Jokowi and we will follow who is recommended by Jokowi,” Budi said, adding that although the President should remain neutral in regional elections, as an individual he would have a personal opinion.
Budi said that after a decision was reached, Relawan Jokowi members would go all-out to support the candidates they recommended. “We are all fighters. We will work 24 hours [a day]. We will supervise the Jakarta gubernatorial election so it selects a leader who is useful for the people,” said Budi. (bbn)
